4 Reasons Your Dog Should Be Supplementing With Salmon Oil

Why is everyone going crazy for fish oil?

You can find dozens of fish oil supplements at your local health store and probably in your own vitamin collection. This super supplement has now made its way into our pets' diet - and with good reason.

Fish oil, specifically wild salmon oil, is very high in Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 is important for our dogs' diet and can help support a number of health concerns before they start. Often times our dogs do not get enough Omega-3 in their regular diet. This article shares are 4 of the top reasons why supplementing with Omega-3 can benefit your dog.

Who doesn't want the smartest dog on the block? If you're like me, you already think your pup is an A+ student. But what's the harm in a little extra cognitive support?

The science: Omega-3 fatty acids, specifically EPA and DHA, influence a number of brain-related processes such as the production of new neurons. DHA in particular is an essential building block of the brain’s cell membranes. So basically, the brain would not be fully functioning without omega-3 fatty acids.

The story: A number of studies have shown that puppies given omega-3 fish oil supplements had significantly stronger abilities to learn new tricks and commands than puppies that we not given the fish oil supplement. Nice!

Ultimately, what omega-3-rich fish oil can do for our pup's brain is worth the hype.

The science: The omega-3s in fish oil are also known for their anti-inflammatory effects. Reducing inflammation topically can help minimize itchiness and hair loss associated with skin allergies and other skin disorders.

Public service announcement: Prolonged use of salmon oil can result in an extremely silky, smooth, and gorgeous dog coat.

Fish oil rich in omega-3 fights can help inflammation both topically (as in the section above) and internally.

A feline fact: A study of omega-3s in cats showed that those who were given the fish oil supplement had improved joint function and were in much less joint-related pain than those who didn't receive the supplement. The benefits that these cats experienced after supplementing with fish oil translates to our puppy friends too!

As we've learned already in this article, Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of unsaturated fatty acid that may reduce inflammation throughout the body. This is great news because excess inflammation around the heart can damage blood vessels and negatively affect an otherwise healthy heart. In fact, research has found that omega-3 fatty acids can help combat cardiovascular disorders, partly because they are known to lower blood pressure slightly, reduce blood clotting, and reduce irregular heartbeats.

This supplement may sound like a superstar, because it is! To ensure your dog has a balanced diet with enough omega-3 fatty acids, you can choose to add a fish oil onto the top of your dog's regular meals. When reading labels, be sure to choose a wild-caught fish, high in Omega-3 like wild alaskan salmon oil.

For a supplement that does double duty, check out the Dope Dropper 200, containing 200mg of CBD suspended in wild Alaskan salmon oil.
